Shooting cylinderical panoramas with the Coolpix 5000

 

Panhead

 
 

 

With the panhead shown in the picture, I've found the following positioning marks eliminate parallax for the built-in lens at the 28mm (unzoomed) position:

Top scale (with the the thumb knob): set to 45

Bottom scale (with the two screws): set to 25 (which is as far in as it can go on mine)

Your mileage may vary (I have no idea how consistent these markings are for your panhead)

 
 

Camera settings

 
 

 

Same as Nikon SLR: set camera to "A" priority, max f-stop, and scan the scene, mentally recording the range of shutter speed values the camera recommends. Switch to "M" (manual mode) and set the exposure to max f-stop (f8) and a middle ground of the shutter speed range observed previously. Shoot 14-18 overlapping shots with the built-in lens (unzoomed).

If the scene has a extremely range of light and dark, then you may need to shoot twice: once for the highlights and once for the shadows.

 
 

QTVRAS parameters

 
     

So far, scenes seem to build OK with the 28mm lens in portrait mode (65 degreees vFOV). Many scenes have not built unless the FOV was reduced to 56 degrees, so I would guess this is closer to the actual value. However when running the "discover best vFOV" mode, QTVRAS recommends anything from 45 to 57 degrees. Oddly enough, Realviz Stitcher v3.1 comes to the conclusion that the built-in lens is a 32mm.

For the 19mm equivalent wide anglelens, so far it looks like 75 degrees vfov works.
