Comments: We were continuing south on the JMT and the segment from Rae Lakes to Glen Pass is one of the steepest we have been on. While at Rae Lakes, it's hard to see where the pass is because the mountains are all uniformly massive. While this was the seventh day that I was still fighting a cold, it had dwindled to only a minor irritation. I charged up the trail and was soon out of breath. About 1/3 of the way from the top you look up and cannot see where the trail goes because it switchbacks on itself up a nearly vertical section of rock. At the nearly 12,000 foot (3650m) top of the pass, the view was magnificent. We spent a nice long time enjoying the view, and were not interrupted by other hikers. Finally turning to continue heading south, I was low on water.
