Comments: Mono Lake, California, is near Tioga Pass, the eastern entance to Yosemite. The sun was setting behind the Sierra escarpment on a cool November day in 1997. The sunset perfectly highlighted Mono Lake's famous tufa (limestone) formations. The lake's water level has risen a number of feet since this panorama was shot, so this particular view will likely never be seen again.
