Panorama from the Aiguille du Midi viewing platform, Chamonix area of France
Comments: There is
a sense of snowy mountain beauty here not seen many other places. My favorite
detail is the tiny specks on the snow -- which were teams of mountain
climbers making their way to Mont Blanc about 1000 feet below. A very lucky
day since the previous few days were rainy. The cable car was
filled
with mountain climbers, mostly from Italy. Once at the top, the climbers
quickly hit the snow, while a few people came up the elevator to this platform.
In this scene, you can see the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, Mont
Blanc du Tacul, Gran Paradiso, Weishorn, Chamonix valley, and much more.

The panorama is presented much like all the free panoramas
on my site, except it has more detail.
FullScreen
VRs provide greater immersion in the scene. Instead of appearing inside
a browser window, the VR is opened using the QuickTime Player. The panorama
is
then displayed the full width of your monitor, and all other windows are
blacked out (temporarily). It's hard to describe how incredible the impact
is, especially on a larger monitor. You still use your mouse to navigate
around. When you are done looking at the
scene,
press
the "esc" (or
Escape) key and your normal desktop will return. (Click
